Wieland leads the herd health team at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). She has broad experience in research, teaching, animal health policy advising and international development. She has a Dr. med. vet. and a PhD. While at the Royal Veterinary College, she acted as strand leader of professional studies for the undergraduate BVetMed course and was course director of the MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals where she managed modules on animal health economics, risk analysis, communication and contingency planning. Before joining ILRI, she worked for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) as Animal Health programme manager in Mongolia where she provided veterinary input to projects dealing with livestock related questions and worked with government institutions to set up disease surveillance systems following the One Health approach.
