Judy Kimani is the Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist working with the Policies, Institutions and Livelihoods (PIL) Program at ILRI. She has experience in content development, editing and publishing in the traditional and new media platforms, outreach and advocacy, and media relations.
She has skills and experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, article writing and website content generation and maintenance, branding, undertaking social media campaigns, graphics design, video and photography as well as organising stakeholder events.
She has over ten years of work experience in various capacities in broadcast media as well as development communications. Judy began her career as a journalist working with the local (Kenyan) media at Royal Media Services (popularly known as Citizen TV/Radio) where she undertook the roles of gathering, preparing and delivering news in addition to producing feature programs for both TV and radio broadcast.
Later, she joined the Foundations Institute of Africa as a Media Liaison Officer where she assumed the roles of publicizing the newly established Institute and establishing cordial working relations with stakeholders before joining the Muranga Water and Sanitation Company where she worked as a Public Relations Officer.
Prior to joining ILRI, Judy worked as a Communications and Outreach Officer at Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development of Egerton University where she undertook communication duties to create content for various audiences, publishing the same in addition to the Institutes research outputs through online and offline stakeholder engagement fora.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Daystar University, and a Masters’ degree in Organisational Development from the United States International University.
