Mapping hotspots of ecosystem services in Tana Basin: a review of vulnerable and resilient areas

Rangeland resources in the Tana basin are numerous but at the same they are embedded in ecosystems that are fragile and require appropriate management strategies to ensure sustainable productivity. Tana basin has a high biodiversity of both plants and animals. The lower part of the study site is designated aRAMSAR site. In order to implement management strategies, one needs to know what are the land uses in place and the associated ecosystem services. A spatial analysis across the time of how land uses have changed combined with stakeholders consultation can help to understand the dynamics behind changes in spatial distribution and provision of ecosystem services.
